How the Two Patterns Differ

The five-bar pattern, often called 5-bar, consists of five raised parallel bars arranged in a lug-shaped cluster, giving a refined, symmetrical look with good anti-slip performance. It is the dominant pattern in Asian and European supply and is widely used for vehicle and decorative flooring. The diamond pattern, also called checker or lentil pattern, uses small raised diamonds spread across the surface, offering a more aggressive non-slip texture and the classic look common in North American industrial flooring. Both patterns provide slip resistance, but the five-bar is favored for appearance and the diamond for maximum grip and tradition.

When the 5-Bar Pattern Is the Right Choice

For vehicle beds, truck toolboxes, marine decking, decorative panels, and any application where appearance and moderate anti-slip performance both matter, the 5-bar pattern is usually preferred. Its symmetrical look is more attractive for visible surfaces, and it is the standard pattern in much of the global supply, so availability and pricing are favorable. For most export flooring and decorative tread plate, the 5-bar is the default choice unless the customer specifies otherwise.

When the Diamond Pattern Is the Right Choice

For heavy-duty industrial flooring, ramps, stair treads, and work platforms where maximum slip resistance is the priority and appearance is secondary, the diamond pattern is often preferred, particularly in North American markets where it is the traditional checker plate look. Its more aggressive texture gives strong grip in oily or wet conditions, and it is widely specified for industrial and access flooring. Where the customer drawing or market convention requires the diamond pattern, it should be specified explicitly to avoid receiving the 5-bar default.

What to Specify on the RFQ

State the pattern explicitly, 5-bar or diamond, since the two are not interchangeable and the 5-bar is the common default. Specify the alloy, such as 1060, 3003, or 5052, since the alloy governs strength and corrosion resistance independent of the pattern, and the thickness, since anti-slip performance and load capacity depend on it. Confirm the sheet size and whether the pattern is on one side only, and request the alloy and pattern on the certificate. For export, state the pattern by the convention the customer uses, since the 5-bar and diamond names vary by region, to ensure the correct pattern is supplied.
