Reasons for rust on the surface of stainless steel railings

The reason why stainless steel railings are not easy to rust is because stainless steel railings contain elements such as chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. With these elements in the steel body, the internal molecular structure becomes more symmetrical, and a dense layer is formed on the surface of the steel body. The chromium-rich oxide protective film greatly increases the corrosion resistance of the steel body, so it can greatly resist the erosion of external acid-corroding items.

However, if the surface layer of the stainless steel railing steel body is damaged or retains some acid, alkali and other metal particles, and is exposed to the air for a long time, some rust will occur. The main reasons for this phenomenon are as follows:

1. The surface of stainless steel contains acid, alkali, and salt substances (such as alkaline water, lime water splash on wall decoration, welding slag splash points, grinding slag, etc.), causing local corrosion.

2. Stainless steel railings adhere to organic juices (such as vegetables, noodle soup, phlegm, hand sweat, etc.). In the presence of water and oxygen, they form organic acids. For a long time, the organic acids will corrode the metal surface.

3. Dust or metal particle attachments containing other metal elements are accumulated on the surface of stainless steel. When these attachments encounter water in the air, they will connect to form a micro-battery, triggering an electrochemical reaction and destroying the surface of stainless steel. The chromium-rich oxide protective film will produce rust marks.

4. The polishing material during the processing of stainless steel railings contains iron ions. If they are not cleaned thoroughly before leaving the factory, they will remain on the surface of the product. Rust spots will appear after encountering water in the air for a long time.

5. In polluted air (such as an atmosphere containing a large amount of sulfides, carbon oxides, and nitrogen oxides), when encountering condensed water, nitric acid and acetic acid liquid points are formed, causing chemical corrosion.

Stainless steel rod manufacturer: The above phenomena are all local corrosion caused by stainless steel railings. It will not cause deep damage to stainless steel for a short time. You can wipe it clean with a clean cloth and a small amount of stainless steel cleaning liquid. Apply a small amount of passivation liquid externally to protect it. Stainless steel railings will no longer show signs of rust.
